A Number of Injured as Turbulence Hits A Delta Airlines Aircraft Landing at Sydney, Australia
Multiple passengers and crew were hurt after a Delta aircraft originating in Los Angeles to Sydney, Australia was hit by rough air on Friday morning.
Flight DL41 "went through a short bout of rough air" as it made its approach and landed at Sydney Airport, a company official stated. Several cabin crew members required medical attention.
The New South Wales Ambulance Service stated they treated five patients, and transferred a trio to the hospital with relatively minor issues that such as spinal discomfort and headaches. The patients' ages were between their 30s to 70s.
It is the latest incident of planes experiencing turbulence, with aviation specialists saying that shifting climate patterns is a significant contributor.
On board were 245 people and a crew of 15 on the Airbus A350, the Delta spokesperson noted, clarifying that the plane arrived "safely" at the airport at 6:48 a.m. local time on Friday morning.
The NSW Ambulance Service said they got a call just a mere three minutes prior to the plane arrived, and ambulances were standing by on the runway.
Why plane turbulence is becoming more common - and more severe.
